Using the WIWACAM Mini Spy camera without WLAN (without Internet)

There are two ways to use the recording function without Wi-Fi.

Option 1: Temporarily connect the camera to your home Wi-Fi to complete camera settings. Then you can take it outside or move it to a place where Wi-Fi is not available. (This option is the easiest method)
Option 2: uses camera’s built-in Wi-Fi AP, connect phone to camera WiFi for checking video when you are near the camera. (This option is more powerful, but it may require some DIY experience.)
You can select either option.

IMPORTANT: The camera does not support connecting to phone hotspots. Instead, you should directly connect your phone to the camera’s Wi-Fi.

Option 1:

Here are the detailed steps:
1. Connect the camera to your home WiFi and add it to the WIWACAM app. For this, refer to the instructions in the Quick Start Guide provided in product box or within the app.

2. launch the WIWACAM app while still on the home wifi -> wait until the camera is shown “online”, click on the camera’s settings –> click on recording settings –> select the recording mode “Continuous Recording”, set ‘Turn ON Recording ‘ as enabled. The camera will start recording and will not stop recording until you turn it off.
Note: We do not recommend using Alarm Recording under AP Mode.
The reason is that the camera lacks a time source without internet, making Alarm Detection and Alarm Recording very risky. Instead, we recommend using Continuous Recording for your safety.

3. now you can turn off the camera and take it outside the range of your wifi. As soon as the camera is switched on again, it automatically starts recording. (a micro SD card must be installed)

How to Find and Playback the recordings

– Check by App
●First, ensure you bring the camera close to your home WiFi router and power it on. Then, open the WIWACAM app.
●’My Camera’ page, see the camera as ONLINE
●Click ‘Playback’ , check in the ‘One Day’ tab, find the recordings in year 2020( which is the default time stamp when there is no internet) ●Click on the file name to view it, or click the download button closed to file name to download the recording.

– Check by inserting microSD card into PC/MAC
●Power off the camera and remove microSD card from camera
●Insert microSD card to PC/MAC, you may need a microSD Card Reader (not included in the product)
●Find the AVX files under the main folder of microSD card. They are the recording files.
Please be aware that the files are named with the year 2020 because the camera uses the default time stamp of 2022 due to the lack of internet connection for the camera.
●Copy all AVX files to PC, and check this link to convert all AVX file to MP4 files:

then you can play back them directly in PC by most of media player software.

Option 2:

2.1 Confirm the camera is emitting WiFi

The camera itself emits a WLAN when it is in the factory default state.
To confirm if the camera is in factory default state, check the camera’s status LED:
If it is flashing red and blue, the camera is in factory default state.
If it is not flashing red and blue, please reset the camera then check again

2.2 Connect Phone to Camera WiF and Add Camera to Phone App

IMPORTANT NOTE:
the camera doesn’t support connecting to phone hotspots; instead, you should connect your phone directly to the camera’s WiFi.

After connect phone to camera WiFi, you can view the live video or recordings and change camera settings via the app.

Here are the detailed steps:
1. turn on the camera, wait 1 minute and check that the status LED on the camera is flashing red and blue.

2. go to the phone’s WLAN settings –> find the camera’s WLAN whose name starts with ‘WIR-‘, connect the smartphone to this WLAN.

(TIP: It is best to temporarily turn off mobile data on the smartphone now. It is because some phone will not use WiFi if both mobile data is ON)

3. wait about 5 minutes, most smartphones will do some extra checkings when connected to a WLAN without Internet. (the camera WLAN is a hotspot without internet)
Note: Some phones will ask: “The WLAN has no Internet, do you still want to stay connected to this WLAN?”. Please confirm that you want to use this WiFi.

4. start the WIWACAM app -> stay on the “My Camera” page for 1 minute -> you will see a blue strip with the message “New camera found”.
(TIP: If you cannot see the blue strip show up, check and turn off mobile data on your phone, then repeater this step again)

5. click on the blue stripe –> click “Add” to add this camera –> when the app asks for the camera password, enter the initial password 123  -> the app will ask you to set a new, secure password for the camera.

6. now the camera has been added to the app. You should see that the camera status in the app is ONLINE.
You can check live video from the camera now.

7. on the “My Camera” page, click on the camera’s settings –> click on “Recording Settings” –> under “Recording Mode”, select either “Continuous Recording”.
Note: We do not recommend using Alarm Recording under AP Mode.
The reason is that the camera lacks a time source without internet, making Alarm Detection and Alarm Recording very risky. Instead, we recommend using Continuous Recording for your safety.

8. With “Continuous recording”, start the recording by sliding the switch to ON. The camera will start recording and will not stop recording until you turn it off.

9. as long as the camera is powered on, it will now record continuously. (a micro SD card must be installed)

Keep in mind that each time you want to check recordings or live video from the camera, you’ll need to connect your phone to the Camera’s WiFi.  Otherwise you will see camera as OFFLINE (because of phone not connect to camera WiFi)
